Cheswick House: The Architecture of Victorian Elegance
This collection pays tribute to Cheswick House’s abnormal Gothic Revival Architecture and stunning original details through the exploration of the layers of mid-late Victorian Womenswear. Stunning eveningwear, walking outfits and day dresses from the Victorian Era have long been depicted in paintings, films, theatre productions and more, but the structural underpinning needed to create these spectacles is less known. From the large cage of the crinoline to the tiny details of corset flossing, this collection aims to capture the beauty of these items through the backdrop of Cheswick House.
The collection centres around the series of getting dressed in the Late Victorian Era for women, which is explored through the lens of Cheswick House. The layers that make up Victorian Womenswear are intrinsically noteworthy, and worth exploring in a contemporary context. This project intends to capture the beauty and atmosphere of the house, and its surrounding farmland, coastline and history, through historical techniques and silhouettes.
